Welcome to the MouseQuest Podcast- Your guide in the quest for the perfect Disney vacation. This is episode number 40. On this week’s show we will be answering questions all about the most recent theme park added to the Walt Disney World Resort – Animal Kingdom. Join us as we share our favorite rides, shows and attractions of this beautiful park that is “Nahtazu”.

It was on Earth Day – April 22, 1998 that Disney’s Animal Kingdom park opened to guests. Not only is it the largest single Disney park in the world, but it was also the first to focus on and reflect Walt Disney’s passion for animals and dedication to conservation. It serves as a beautiful home to more than 1700 animals across 250 species. There are 7 themed lands in Animal Kingdom – the Oaisis, Discovery Island, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia and Dinoland USA. Back in 2011, Disney partnered with filmmaker James Cameron to work on bringing the world of Pandora to Animal Kingdom. This new area is scheduled to open within the next few years. The park is represented by an intricately designed, very large, Tree of Life in which you can see many different types of animals carved into its trunk and branches. Questions this week include:

  • For those guests who have not visited Animal Kingdom before, how would you describe the park in a way to show them that it’s not just another zoo?
  • In a park that is dedicated to animal care, research and conservation, the animals are the real attraction. What would you say are your top 5 choices just to experience the vast animal life available in Animal Kingdom?
  • Let’s talk about dining! There are some very interesting cuisines represented in Animal Kingdom. Could you tell us about some of the dining locations available and which ones are your favorites?
  • In addition to all Animal Kingdom has to offer that just focuses on animals, there are also many other rides, shows and attractions to experiences. What would you say are some of those that a guest shouldn’t miss?
  • What would you say are your top 5 experiences not to miss in Disney’s Animal Kingdom?

Appearing this week are Dawn Gosdin, Rich Grady, Amy Leto, Marci Smith, and Liz Weimann.

Episode 39: Downtown Disney

Welcome to the MouseQuest Podcast- Your guide in the quest for the perfect Disney vacation. This is episode number 39. On this week’s show we will be answering questions about Downtown Disney at the Walt Disney World Resort. This large waterfront complex features some incredible outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment for the entire family. Today we’ll share some of our favorite things to experience here with you.

In 1975 Disney opened the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village; an outdoor entertainment area with shopping and dining that was originally planned for residents of the area. Later on it became the Walt Disney World Village, focusing more on the guests of WDW. Then, in 1989 when Pleasure Island was added the area was again renamed to the Disney Village Marketplace. In 1997 the Disney Village Marketplace and Pleasure Island were combined into Downtown Disney and the West Side was added. Since then, Pleasure Island has closed and there have been other changes throughout the years. Downtown Disney is now scheduled for a major overhaul that was announced earlier this year, and by 2016 we will have the new Disney Springs. For the purpose of this particular show we will be discussing what Downtown Disney has to offer right now as it is. Questions this week include:

  • Just to give someone an overview who may have not visited Downtown Disney before, can you tell us what it is?
  • There is a LOT of shopping available in the Downtown Disney area. We don’t have time to discuss all of the options, but could you tell us what are your top 5 shops to visit?
  • There are times throughout the year that Downtown Disney offers special events and entertainment. Could you give us an idea of what may be available in the coming months?
  • We all love to eat and Downtown Disney definitely has a lot to offer in the way of dining. What restaurants have you tried in Downtown Disney? Are there any you’d really like to try? Any that should be avoided?
  • If you were going to spend a day in Downtown Disney, what things are on your must do list?

Appearing this week are Kelly Collins, Dawn Gosdin, Rich Grady, Amy Leto, and Marci Smith.

Episode 38: All About Epcot

Welcome to the MouseQuest Podcast- Your guide in the quest for the perfect Disney vacation. This is episode number 38. On this week’s show we will be answering questions all about the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow – or Epcot. On October 1, 1982 Walt Disney World opened this second theme park, which is more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom. Join us as we discuss our favorite rides, shows and attractions of the park that celebrates human achievements through imagination, wonders of enterprise and concepts of a promising future.

Epcot is very unique in that its pavilions and attractions are created not only to entertain guests but also educate them as well. To give our listeners a quick overview, the park is made up of two sections – Future World and World Showcase. Future World has a number of pavilions and attractions that focus on innovation, science and technology such as the History of communication, Space Travel, Energy, Motion, The Sea, The Land and Imagination. World Showcase features 11 countries from around the world and in them explore cultural aspects of each one. Currently the countries included are Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, The American Adventure, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada. Obviously this park is huge and we won’t be able to cover everything it has to offer but we can talk about the highlights and help others know what not to miss when they visit Epcot. Questions this week include:

  • When some people view Epcot as being an educational park they may see it as boring or not having enough for kids and families to enjoy. Does your family enjoy Epcot?
  • Epcot is probably my favorite place in all of Walt Disney World to eat. There are so many different options to choose from and so many cuisines from all around the world. What are your top 3 Counter Service and top 3 Table Service restaurants in Epcot?
  • As many different restaurants that Epcot has to offer it also has a LOT of shopping. Where do you like to go to find unique souvenirs in Epcot?
  • One of the best things about World Showcase is the variety of shows and performers it offers. What would you say are the top 3 shows in Epcot that everyone should see?
  • If you could list your top 5 things to do in Epcot with your family, what would they be?
  • What is your favorite thing to do in Epcot?

Episode 37: Disney Parks Mom’s Panel Application Process

Welcome to the MouseQuest Podcast- Your guide in the quest for the perfect Disney vacation. This is episode number 37. On this week’s show we will be discussing the Disney Parks Moms Panel Application Process. As you may know, we began this journey in podcasting because we were inspired by the Moms Panel and wanted to share our love of Disney in a new way. The time is quickly approaching this year to apply for the 2014 Panel and we are very excited! We hope to share our experiences of the application process with you and would love for you to join us as potential hopefuls.

Back in 2007 Disney put out a call for those of us who love to visit, plan and share Disney magic wherever we go and with whomever will listen to us. Out of thousands of applicants the first group of 12 Walt Disney World Panelists were chosen to spread vacation pixie dust. Now in 2013 the panel has grown to 47 members and encompasses much more than just walt Disney world. Moms and dads from around the world share their love and knowledge of Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures By Disney, Disney Vacation Club, runDisney and more, even in multiple languages. If you think you’d like to join this group Disney lovers and wonder what the process is like, we’re here to help you understand it a little better. Questions this week include:

  • Let’s start right at the beginning. When and how does the application process begin?
  • There are 3 rounds in the application process and we know the first round is that initial application that will be taking place on September 9th of this year. If someone were to get past the first round and into the second round, what additional things need to be done to complete round 2?
  • What do you think was the most difficult part of the application process?
  • What is the one tip you would give to someone who is applying to be on the panel?

Appearing this week are Dawn Gosdin, Rich Grady, Amy Leto, and Marci Smith.
