August 26 – Claiming it’s a liability to the nearby Mickey’s Backyard Barbeque, Walt Disney World is draining and filling in the pool at the former River Country Water Park. While the claims of decreasing liability is a viable excuse, this could also be a response to the recent Zika outbreak in Florida (Link)
August 27 – Most Orlando area theme parks including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld will be providing free mosquito repellent to their guests in an effort to combat the Zika outbreak. (Link)
August 29 – A family is suing Disney claiming they were bitten by bed bugs during their stay at Disneyland’s Grand Californian Resort. (Link)
August 31 – It’s the end of an era for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney’s California Adventure Park. On January 2, 2017, the attraction will close its doors to make way for a Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout experience which is expected to debut next summer. (Link)
September 1 – Disney has introduced a new one-way bus service from all the theme parks to Disney Springs. The service will begin each day at 4:00pm and run until 11:00pm. (Link)
September 2 – Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is returning to the Magic Kingdom for the fall season. This year’s dates include September – 2, 8, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 29 and 30 and October – 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31. So far none of these dates are sold out. (Link)
September 4 – Jimmy Grabow won his third Disneyland Half Marathon in the last five year. He finished with a time of 1:06:13. (Link)
September 5 – Walt Disney World is offering discounted resort rooms for the following time periods during the holiday season: November 6 – 10, November 13-22 and November 26 – December 23. This special offer allows you to save up to 20% on your resort room. The deadline to take advantage of this deal October 8, 2016. (Link)
September 6 – Walt Disney World has updated its policy for children scanning their finger at theme park entrances. Starting now, all guests over the age of three will be require scan their finger before entering the park. Previously only children ages 10 and up were required to scan their finger. (Link)
September 6 – The Walt Disney Company will hold their 4th Quarter earnings call on Thursday, November 10 at 5:00pm (Eastern). These calls are usually pretty interesting because you can expect to hear not only financial info but also info on their parks and resort, media networks and movie releases. (Link)
September 6 – Disney announced that Disney Enchanted Tales is now available for mobile devices. This newest time suck mobile app is a kingdom-building game which features familiar locations from Beauty & The Beast, Frozen and Tangled. You can also interact with Disney characters such as Belle, Gaston, Anna, Prince Hans, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. While it is free to play the app, there are in-app purchases. (Link)
September 6 – Southern California Disney fans – synchronize your watches and head to Costco between now and December 1 to get your discounted annual pass to Disney California Adventure Park for $330. This annual pass has about 60 blackout days as opposed to the customary 180. Considering that a one day ticket is $95.00 this is a GREAT deal. (Link)
September 7 – The search for the Class of 2017 of the Disney Parks Moms Panel is underway. If you are the go-to person when your friends and family are planning their Disney vacations then you should consider applying for the Panel. The first round of the selection process will run from 12:00pm (Eastern) on September 7 to 12:00pm (Eastern) on Wednesday, September 14. (Link)
September 7 – Jasmine is the latest princess to receive a makeover. Typically Jasmine is seen in a two-piece, midriff-bearing outfit. The new outfit is more conservative and more in keeping with Jasmine’s fictional culture. (Link)
September 8 – Just like with every other Disney animated feature, ‘Easter Eggs’ (hidden Disney characters from other movies) will be present in the Disney’s Moana as well. Be on the lookout for cameos by Flounder from The Little Mermaid and “Olaf” from Frozen. (Link)
September 8 – Finding Dory will be released on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on October 15 and on Blu-Ray 3D, DVD and On-Demand on November 15. There will be special bonus features including the short “Piper” and deleted scenes. In case you have ‘remembory loss’ Finding Dory made over $945 million at the worldwide box office. (Link)
September 9 – Could we get dueling live action versions of Mulan? It appears that Sony is now in the pre-production stages of offering their own story of our favorite Chinese heroine. Since Disney is also in pre-production with their own version this could come to fruition. (Link)
