Well friends, that is what is happening here. Originally, the plan was to bring you a monthly wrap-up of all the Disney news. However, we have found that so much news is coming out of the Disney machine, some of it very time sensitive, that we thought it would be best to bring it to you on a bi-weekly basis. Therefore, here is the first of our bi-weekly news wrap-up:
February 2 – Members of the World Champion New England Patriots visited Disneyland. (Link)
February 3 – Disney is now pushing back the opening of the new Shanghai Disney to 2016. (Link)
February 3 – Fecility Jones, Oscar-nominee for her portrayal of Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything, has been tapped to star in Disney’s first ‘Star Wars’ spin-off film. (Link)
February 3 – Disney has filed paperwork which includes dismantling the Sorceror’s Hat, maintenance in the Big Thunder Mountain/Splash Mountain area, Hollywood & Vine, Kilimanjaro Safari, upgraded T-Mobile coverage, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Villas. (Link)
February 4 – The Disney Parks Blog posted a great video of the new Peter Pan’s Flight interactive queue. (Link)
February 5 – Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resort, Tom Staggs, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer which seems to indicate he might be the successor to Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger. (Link)
February 6 – Luigi’s Flying Tires closes in Disneyland. (Link)
February 6 – Starting on February 25, lunch reservations are now being accepted at Be Our Guest. (Link)
February 7 – Star-Lord, from Disney’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, made good on a Super Bowl bet made with fellow Avenger, Captain America, by visiting a children’s hospital in Boston. (Link)
February 7 – The Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is sporting some new roots. (Link)
February 9 – Unfortunately, the selfie crazy is here to stay and CNN has compiled a list of the Top 10 most popular places in the world to take a selfie. Guess what’s #2? (Link)
February 9 – Walt Disney World Co. reported that its first quarter occupancy rate was 89%. That is 8% over last year’s first quarter rate. Can anyone say NEW RESORT?! (Link)
February 10 – A Houston family is walking from Disneyland in California 4,000 miles to Walt Disney World in Florida in honor of their daughter who died as a result of a rare form of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. (Link)
February 10 – Rumors are abound that Disney will break the $100 mark on their one day Magic Kingdom theme park tickets. Get your tickets soon! (Link)
February 10 – The 2017 Disney movie line-up just got a little more interesting as it was announced that Marvel and Sony will partner to allow Spider-Man to appear in upcoming Marvel movies. (Link)
February 11 – Star Wars in coming to Disney Cruise Line. Eight sailing on the Disney Fantasy in early 2016 will feature ‘Star Wars Day at Sea’. (Link)
February 11 – If you have a lead foot you better speed to Richard Petty Driving Experience before June 28. The experience will be closing at Walt Disney World. (Link)
